چکیده

This paper focuses on the structural, electronic, and vibrational features of amorphous graphite [R. Thapa et al, Phys. Rev. Lett., 2022, 128, 236402]. The structural order in is discussed compared with carbon. electronic density states localization these phases were analyzed. Spatial projection charge densities π bands showed a high concentration participating atoms connecting hexagons. A was computed potentially an experimentally testable fingerprint material. An analysis modes carried out using phase quotient, mode stretching character. average thermal conductivity calculated for aG 0·85 0·96 W/cmK at room temperature 1000 K, respectively.

Understanding the nature of “superhard graphite”

Numerous experiments showed that on cold compression graphite transforms into a new superhard and transparent allotrope. Several structures with different topologies have been proposed for this phase. While experimental data are compatible with most of these models, the only way to solve this puzzle is to find which structure is kinetically easiest to form. Using state-of-the-art molecular-dyna...

Atomistic mechanisms of lithium insertion in amorphous silicon

Understanding the lithium–silicon alloying behavior is essential for achievingmaximum charge capacity in the negative electrodes of lithium-ion batteries. Our atomistic simulations show that in amorphous silicon with a disordered network structure, inserted lithium atoms can find equilibrium positions in the interstices of big rings. Alternatively, lithium is incorporated into the network by th...

Atomistic simulation of light-induced changes in hydrogenated amorphous silicon

We employ ab initio molecular dynamics to simulate the response of hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) to light exposure (the Staebler– Wronski effect). We obtain improved microscopic understanding of photovoltaic operation, compute the motion of H atoms, and modes of lightinduced degradation of photovoltaics. We clarify existing models of lightinduced change in a-Si:H and show that the ‘hy...

Atomistic Features of the Amorphous-Crystal Interface in Silicon

We simulate the amorphous-crystal interface in silicon using a combination of interatomic potential molecular-dynamics and tight-binding conjugate-gradient relaxation. The samples we create have high quality crystalline and amorphous portions. We develop some localized measures of order to characterize the interface, including a missing neighbor vector and the bond angle deviation. We nd that t...
